THREE talented Rhyl and District Rugby Club youngsters helped their regional side secure a national final berth.

Luke Graham, Dylan Thomas and Freddie Holt formed part of the North East Wales Schools’ U11 side that took on Newport in a hotly contested semi-final clash that was evenly poised at one try apiece at the break.

The young Dragons’ performed exceptionally well throughout as the squad dug deep to secure an impressive 5-3 victory over their southern counterparts, and they will now take on Rhymney Valley at Llanidloes RFC on Thursday in a bid to achieve their first championship in 20 years.

Former Rhyl youth product and current RGC senior squad member Sam Wainwright was on hand to dish out the prizes at the Dragons’ annual presentation event.

All teams from the juniors up to the U16s received medals and various awards, with more than 400 turning out for the occasion.

The former Wales U20 international was also on hand to witness the annual coaches v U16s contest that took place prior to the presentation.
