MOCHDRE were unable to make it a Bank Holiday Weekend double as they fell to a dramatic four-wicket T20 group defeat at St Asaph.
The North Wales Cricket League Premier Division side were undone by final ball drama in their narrow reverse at Elwy Grove Park, with the visitors setting an initial target of 130-6 from their allotted 20 overs in the middle.
Captain Matty Humphreys was the star of the show on his way to an unbeaten 58, with opener Alex Davies also aiding his side’s cause with a knock of 21 from 16 balls.
Adam Buckley’s 15 was the only other score of note from the away side as Alex Baker became the pick of the home bowlers thanks to three wickets for the loss of 29 runs.
The hosts got off to a moderate start thanks to knocks of 13 and 20 from Baker and Duncan Midgley, and skipper Will Ryan was another to perform well before he was removed from the crease by Liam Herbert on 31.
Despite losing Daniel Williams (8) and Mathew Ryan (6) cheaply at the hands of Russ Boswell and Mike Humphreys, a 32 score from Jason Foulkes couple with a winning hit on the game’s final delivery enabled them to secure success in thrilling fashion.
