RHYL and District’s new women’s side took another giant leap forward to competitive fixtures in the not-too-distant future.
The Dragons’ female squad were set up earlier this season to coincide with their eagerly anticipated move to a new facility at Ty Newydd Fields, and the initiative has now officially been accepted as a functional unit by the Welsh Rugby Union.
This is a hugely positive decision from the fledgling set-up, which will continue with weekly training sessions throughout the summer before going on to play a series of friendly fixtures during the 2019/20 campaign.
They will hopefully go on to play in some tournament during the New Year ahead of the Dragons’ joining a league for the first time in 2020/21.
Anyone wishing to join the Rhyl and District women’s rugby squad is welcome to attend their training sessions, which take place at Ty Newydd every Monday from 7pm.
The senior men will also be embarking on a new era after head coach Seb Vidal announced he was stepping down from the post.
Vidal has played a key role for the WRU National League Division Two North side in recent seasons, and the Rhyl High School employee was named graduate of year on the Welsh Rugby Union ‘Coach Core’ apprenticeship scheme year.
He received his accolade from the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle during the inaugural ‘Coach Core’ awards at Loughborough University.
