A TALENTED young golfer has earned another international squad selection ahead of a high-profile competition.

Reuben Bather, a Year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, will head to the continent with the Wales U18 squad for the European Boys Team Championship from July 10-13.

The squad will compete in Division Two of the prestigious competition, which will be held at Toya Golf and CC Poland.

They begin their time together with two practice days at the course before the official start of the competition, before taking part in the first round of the stroke play event on day one.

Successful qualifiers will take part in the second round of the stroke play qualification on day two, with the tournament concluding with two eagerly anticipated match play days that will go a long way to determine the overall victor.

This is the latest in a series of notable achievements for Reuben, who is a scratch handicapper and was appointed junior captain at Maesdu Golf Club for the second successive summer.

He has been a part of the Welsh set-up for a consistent period thanks to his outstanding form in regional and national events, which included a notable triumph in the ISGA Northern Open Championship and securing qualification to the ISGA National Match Play Finals alongside fellow Rydal Penrhos pupils Charley Simpson and Adrian Lewis.

Reuben has developed his game considerably as part of Rydal Penrhos’ sports scholarship programme and the additional training he has received from specialist coaches working with the Academy.
