LLANRWST’s inconsistent start to the season continued with a two-wicket reverse at Hawarden Park.

The North Wales Cricket League First Division side restricted their opponents to 154-8 from their allotted 50 overs in the middle, with skipper Adam Cross producing a fine knock to finish the day unbeaten with a top score of 48 not out.

Opening duo Jamie Brailsford and David Hughes also aided their side’s cause with 21 and 26 respectively, but only Ian Martin (14) and Anthony Salisbury (10) making it into double figures during the innings.

Leon Doran and Alwyn Williams were the undoubted pick of the Rwsters’ bowling attacking after both claimed four wickets apiece at the combined expense of 78 runs.

Despite chasing down a modest total, the visitors were unable to get anywhere close to securing the win thanks to a standout performance in the field by the Park bowlers.

Tom Norris led the way with a superb five-wicket haul that cost just 44 runs, with Michael (3-10) and Martin (2-27) also playing a leading role for the home side.

Away opener Scott Thomas did he best to keep his side in the contest with a fantastic 60 knock, but he ran out of partners at the other end as they mustered 106 all out in response.

Next up for the Rwsters’ is a home tie against ambitious Dolgellau on Saturday.
