TWO Preparatory School skiing stars performed exceptionally well at a national competition.

Cameron Pye and Xavier Poynton, Year 5 and 3 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, tested their considerable skills against other young talented from across the country at the British Indoor Skiing Championships, which took place at the Chill Factore in Manchester.

Ambition Racing squad member Xavier demonstrated his incredible potential in a field of 15 in the under 10 category, and the aspiring star added to his list of outstanding achievements by finishing top of the podium to clinch a national championship.

Cameron’s performance was also extremely encouraging in the U12 category, which is widely regarded as one of the most competitive sections during the high-profile event.

The improving skier turned in two very impressive runs to finish in 11th position, narrowly missing out on a top ten place.

Both Cameron and Xavier are members of the Dragons Ski Team and have developed their respective skills considerably in their own time and as part of Rydal Penrhos’ skiing provision.

Alison Hind, Head of Rydal Penrhos Prep School, said: “Cameron and Xavier are both enormously talented and it was no surprise to see them performing so well at such a big event in the face of some stern competition.

“For Xavier to win a British championship is a testament to his tireless enthusiasm that is being supported considerably by his parents, and Cameron’s progression throughout the academic year has been a real joy to see.”
