LLANRWST were unable to make home advantage count during their 73-run defeat at the hands of Conwy.

The visitors posted a score of 210-8 from their allotted 50 overs at the crease, with opener Greg Smithies demonstrating his class throughout to finish with a half century knock of 50 from 91 deliveries.

Another valuable effort came from Mark Edmondson, who smashed his way to 37 off just 19 balls, with Jack Williamson’s more patient approach resulting in 34 off 109.

Jack Hughes, Huw Williams and Leon Doran were the pick of the Rwsters’ bowling attack, each claiming two wickets apiece at the combined expense of 147 runs.

The home side were unable to get anywhere near their required target despite a knock of 41 from opener Callum Jones, but only skipper Aron Hughes (13) and Aled Hughes (29) managed to make it into double-figures throughout the remainder of the innings as the hosts managed to make 137 all out in reply from their 42 overs at the crease.

This was down in no small part to the contributions of Edmondson and Phil Leeds, who both took three scalps each, and Sam Williams and Williamson also playing a part with a brace apiece.

Llanrwst now sit in eighth position in the standings following their latest reverse, with league leaders Conwy next up this Saturday on home soil.
