CONWY suffered their first defeat of the North Wales Cricket League Division One season thanks to a 124-run home loss to Bethesda.

The visitors made a moderate total from their time in the middle, posting 204 all out thanks in no small part to the performance of wicketkeeper Nicholas Parry, who smashed no fewer than 11 boundaries on his way to a score of 61.

Two more invaluable efforts came from Matthew Harrington and opener Dewi Roberts, who made 35 and 34 respectively before both were removed from the crease by Shaun Davies, who recorded final figures of 5-58 from a tremendous 12-over spell.

Graham Meredith and Stan Senior were also in good form with the ball, claiming a pair of scalps apiece at the combined expense of 62.

It proved to be a very uncharacteristic batting display from the promotion-chasing home side, who were bamboozled by the Pesda bowling throughout as they collapsed to 80 all out in reply.

Only opener Evan Williams emerged from the contest with any credit thanks to a 29 knock, with Meredith aiding his side’s cause to end the day unbeaten on 16 from 51 deliveries.

The bowling tandem of Kevin Evans and Mathew Buchanan provide to be the difference between the two sides, combining for eight of the wickets for the loss of just 59 runs.

Conwy still enjoy a 15-point cushion at the summit ahead of their trip to Llanrwst on Saturday.
