LLANGEFNI Town manager Chris Roberts stated his side are raring to go ahead of their first pre-season fixture this weekend.

The newly promoted FAW Tier 2 North League side welcome Gwalchmai on Saturday, with the group in the early stages of their training regime ahead of the significant challenge that lies ahead of them.

Roberts has been “happy” with what he has seen from his squad so far, but is fully aware of the magnitude of the task awaiting his side during the upcoming campaign.

He said: “The lads are working really hard both on and off the training ground. There is a great atmosphere in the camp and it’s great to see the hunger and determination to do well.

“Our first pre-season game is this Saturday and we are looking forward to getting out there on the pitch to work on different things ready for the season as well as having a look at some new lads and younger ones from the reserves too.”

The treble winners are about to embark into the most competitive second tier league in recent memory, which has been enhanced by the arrivals of Colwyn Bay and Llandudno in addition to the strength already occupying places within the division.

Roberts has called on his side to take inspiration from the recent success of the Ynys Mon men’s and women’s teams at the Huws Gray Inter-Island Games tournament, with many Cefni stars part of Campbell Harrison’s squad that secured a gold medal.

“We know the work that needs to be done in the coming weeks to get us all up to speed ready for what will be a real competitive league this season,” added Roberts.

“It’s something we are all really looking forward to, testing ourselves and hopefully continuing the success of both the Ynys Mon teams at the Island Games in making the island proud as the highest ranked team on Anglesey now.”
