A COLWYN Bay school has received a prestigious award shortlisting from a leading magazine.

Rydal Penrhos’ incredible year of success has seen it shortlisted in the Independent School of the Year for Sporting Achievement category at the Independent School Parent magazine's Schools of the Year 2019 awards.

It has been another phenomenal year for the school’s sporting provision, with the likes of Reuben Bather and Zach Speakman becoming two of the best young prospects in the country in Golf and Swimming.

Sixth Former Keira Bonnington was recently crowned British Indoor Skiing Champion in the U18 girls’ event, and Josh Manning secured a place on the Team GB squad for the World Youth Sailing Championships.

There has also been plenty to shout about from a Cricket, Rugby, Netball and Hockey perspective, with Cameron Shaw also enhancing the school’s Triathlon reputation thanks to a series of exceptional results in a competitive environment.

Dr Helen Wright, Chair of the Independent Schools of the Year 2019, said: “The response we have had to Independent School Parent magazine's Independent Schools of the Year 2019 awards has been fantastic and we are thrilled to have surpassed the number of entries received last year.

“Hundreds of schools of different sizes and from across the country have again submitted high-quality entries in all 20 awards categories and we are delighted by the enthusiasm being shown by schools.

“The aim of the awards is to highlight the excellence of the student experience in independent schools, and on the evidence of all these submissions, there is no doubt whatsoever that the independent school sector in Britain is thriving.”

The judges will be meeting again at the end of summer to reach a decision on the winner of each category, with the winners to be announced in October.
