PRESTATYN Sports picked up a morale-boosting friendly win ahead of their return to Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One action this weekend.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side made the long trip to Caergybi FC and produced a fine second half display to come away with a 7-0 success on their travels, which will stand them in good stead ahead of a busy few months of competitive fixtures for the ambitious squad.

They start their third-tier campaign by welcoming Holyhead Hotspur to their Gronant base on Saturday, who were relegated from the newly named JD Cymru North last term and harbour huge aspirations of getting back to that division at the first time of asking.

Sports headed into the break during their friendly fixture a goal to the good thanks to a header from Steve Ashe, and there was a marked improvement in their overall performance throughout the second period that resulted in a further six goals for the visitors.

Club stalwart Ian Dunn continued his fine run of pre-season form with a brace, with Ashley New also helping himself to a pair of efforts to further reflect their overall dominance in the second 45 minutes

Ashe rounded off an impressive individual display with his second of the contest following another good spell of possession, and a solitary strike from James Cairns was another highlight of a polished overall display.

Williams, said: “I think the lads underestimated Caergybi in the first half and credit to them, they were brilliant.

“They took the game right to us and were probably the better team first half. Hitting the bar twice and had all the good chances in the half.

“We had to improve, and we did. The lads really turned the game around second half. Some of the football played was great to see.

“We scored some superb goals as well, and the link up between Ash and Ian was very pleasing.”

Sports also welcomed back two influential squad members from injury, with Cy Williams and Reese Chamberlain getting some much-needed minutes ahead of the new campaign.
