LLANDUDNO opened their JD Cymru North campaign with an impressive 3-1 win over Corwen at the Giant Hospitality Stadium.

The new-look Tudno squad came from a goal down to emerge as comfortable victors against Danny Jellicoe’s newly promoted outfit, which is a confidence-boosting result ahead of what is expected to be a hugely competitive second tier season.

Matthew Jones’ men will look to build on this positive result during their next outing this Saturday when they host Gresford Athletic, who began their fixtures with a 2-0 reverse at Llangefni Town.

Although the home side made a strong start to the contest, they fell behind on 12 minutes when Joe Williams successfully converted from the penalty spot after Dean Seager was adjudged to have fouled in the box.

This was met by an almost instant response from the former JD Cymru Premier side, who levelled matters when skipper and talisman Danny Hughes netted from close range to level proceedings.

Summer signings from Bangor City Robbie Parry went close on 16 minutes after some neat build-up play, but they did not have to wait much longer for another breakthrough when Hughes headed in his second of the opening day game after latching on to a standout delivery from Parry.

A stunning save from Shaun Pearson kept Tudno’s slender lead intact just before the break, and the second period’s lacklustre start saw Jones introduce Aaron Poyemie into the fold with almost instant results.

The former Rhyl and Holywell Town forward upped the tempo of Tudno’s attacking play and they extended their cushion on 75 minutes when a free-kick was slipped into the path of Seager, who atoned for his earlier error with a neat finish to round off the scoring and secure a morale boosting triumph for the home side.
