MOCHDRE Sports picked up their first win of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two season thanks to an eye-catching 2-1 win at Holyhead Town.

The fourth-tier side turned in a fabulous second half display to emerge with three points against the Harbourmen, who have begun the campaign in impressive fashion after winning their opening two game prior to the weekend’s clash.

Things did not look promising for the visitors early on as they fell behind on 28 minutes when prolific marksman Asa Thomas continued his exceptional recent form with another composed finish to break the deadlock.

This pattern of play did not continue after the break as Sports upped the tempo in worsening conditions to level matters with 69 on the clock courtesy of a neat finish from James Frost, and the deciding moment arrived on 82 minutes when a Town player diverted into his own net to give the away side the lead for the first time.

They had to withstand some heavy pressure in the closing stages as the hosts went in search of a point, but the Sports rear-guard held firm to get themselves off the mark.

Newly promoted Llandudno Amateurs claimed their opening point thanks to a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Penmaenmawr Phoenix, with both side spurning good opportunities to claim the spoils during an entertaining affair.

Llandudno Junction extended their unbeaten start to the season despite being held to a 0-0 home draw by Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

The Railwaymen, who have suffered relegation in each of their previous two seasons, now occupy sixth place and are currently four points behind early pacesetters Gaerwen.
