A STANDOUT bowling display from Russ Boswell helped North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title hopefuls Mochdre secure a vital seven-wicket win at Gresford.

The newly promoted side remain in second position following their latest impressive victory, and they are now 12 points behind leaders Bangor ahead of their home clash with struggling St Asaph on Saturday.

Boswell made the most of the new ball to give his side a leading chance of securing success with a devastating 12 over spell that saw him removed the likes of skipper Daniel Williams (27), Chris Ellwood (11), Matthew Cree (48) and Gareth Bell (33) on his way to six wickets for the loss of just 37 runs.

Stewart Williams and Gareth Goodson claimed the other two wickets during the innings, leaving the home side on 172-8 after their allotted 50 overs concluded.

Despite losing the opening partnership of Williams (16), Goodson (23) and Alex Davies (0) early on, a superb partnership from skipper Matty Humphreys and wicketkeeper James French ensured the away side reached their required total with four balls remaining.

Humphreys led by example once again on his way to an unbeaten 58 to take his average for the season to an astonishing 79.7, and French also demonstrated his class throughout to contribute 57 not out for his side.

Following their game with the Saints on Saturday, the unlikely championship contenders face a pivotal final three contests against Llandudno, Menai Bridge and Bangor, knowing victory in all three would see them lift the crown in their first season back at this level.
