CONWY remain on course for the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title after securing a 63-run triumph at Hawarden Park.

The long-time leaders got off to a very promising start thanks to a strong opening partnership from skipper Rajjenu Britto and Shaun Davies before the latter was eventually dismissed on 51.

Britto fared better to make an 85 contribution to the eventual score, before Gareth Thomas provided some essential middle order runs’ on his way to an outstanding 73.

This enabled the away side to set a target of 237-6 from their allotted 35 overs, with Ian Martin’s display seeing him emerge as the pick of the home bowling attack on 3-52.

Graham Meredith’s display with the new ball saw him send Jamie MacDonald (21), Campbell Marr (13), Jo Forde (0) and Steve Bliss (0) to end a superb eight-over spell with figures of 4-32.

He was aided at the other end of the crease by Graham Boase, who claimed the scalps of captain Adam Cross (36), Martin (26) and Craig Wilson (2) to end the day on 3-26.

Despite the best efforts of Chris Hinton (40*) late on it was not enough to deny the title favourites another crucial win as the hosts made 174-8 in reply.

The result leaves Conwy 12 points clear of Llay Welfare with four games remaining, and they will look to take another massive step to securing the crown during their home encounter with Carmel and District on Saturday.
