LLANDUDNO were unable to match their opening day performance as they fell to a 4-1 home reverse to Gresford Athletic.

The JD Cymru North side were blown away by Athletic in the first period which left them with too much work to do for the remainder of the clash, and manager Matthew Jones will be hoping his side get back to winning ways at the expense of his former team when they host Rhyl on Tuesday night (7.30pm).

A strong start from the visitors saw the go ahead on 11 minutes when full-back Joe Culshaw steered an effort past Shaun Pearson to break the deadlock, and things got even better for Steve Halliwell’s side soon after when the impressive Jake Eyre unleashed a blistering effort that found its way into the top corner.

Tudno were finding it hard to deal with the relentless pressure from the visitors in sweltering conditions, and their chances of finding a route back into the contest were dealt a fatal blow on 35 minutes when a fine team move was finished off from close range by Jack Chaloner to treble their deficit heading into the half-time break.

After the interval saw the hosts come out with a renewed sense of purpose and they were rewarded for their improved play on 72 minutes when Bryan Roberts, a summer signing from Conwy Borough, made up for an earlier miss with a well-taken effort to give them a slender chance heading into the closing stages.

This joy proved to be short lived thanks to a fourth from the visitors that came when a quick counter attack presented an opportunity to Jordan MacCarter, who made no mistake with the finish to complete the scoring.

There was a blow for the away side in the dying stages as Chaloner was dismissed for a second yellow card.
