CONWY geared up for their North Wales Cricket League title showdown at Llay Welfare with a comfortable ten-wicket home success over Carmel and District.

The long-time leaders made light work of their latest fixture after restricting their opponents to just 93 all out from 39 overs at the crease, with Graham Meredith turning in another fine display on his way to four wickets for 31 runs.

Another impressive contribution with the ball came from Shaun Davies, who maximised his production from a six-over spell to claim the wickets of Derek Johnson (13), James Roberts (0) and Dylan Rae on his way to figures of 3-8.

Wicketkeeper Ryan Roberts was one of the bright sparks in an otherwise disappointing batting effort from the visitors with a top score of 40, and Jonathan Fisher provided stubborn resistance to finish the day unbeaten on 23 from 104 deliveries.

As expected, the hosts reached their target with little fuss and without the loss of a solitary wicket thanks to the opening pair of Anthony Thorp and Evan Williams, who hit 46 and 32 not out respectively in 20 overs for another valuable 15 points in their quest for promotion.

They can all-but wrap up the championship next week during their visit to Llay, who are currently in second position and 15 points behind Conwy with three games remaining.
