A TEENAGE golf sensation has earned another national squad selection for a high-profile fixture.

Reuben Bather, a Year 12 pupil at the Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, will be part of the Wales U18 squad that will take on England at Newport Golf Club over a two-day period from September 21-22.

The squad will get the chance to acclimatise to the course during an afternoon practice round a day prior to the fixture, with the competitive action to get underway with singles and foursomes that form day one of the event.

This will be followed by a pivotal day two that will feature another round of singles to determine the victor, and Reuben will be looking to make another huge impact with a squad that has achieved a considerable amount in recent months.

The Sixth Former was part of the Welsh team that clinched Division II gold at the European Boys’ Team Championships in Poland this summer, enabling them to move back into Division One for the upcoming campaign.

He also played a significant role in Wales’ Cardigan Cup success over Ireland and during a historic Quadrangular Cup victory in Holland.

Reuben has brought his game on considerably since joining Rydal Penrhos’ Golf Academy, securing a host of regional, national and international triumphs both individually and at school competitions.

Nicky Head, head of Physical education at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Reuben has proven his worth on the national stage on multiple occasions so far, and hopefully he can take his good form into what is sure to be a hotly contested clash against England.

“He is one of the shining examples of the success of our Golf Academy, which is among the best anywhere in the country.”
