PRESTATYN Sports’ encouraging run of recent form came to an end after they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at Mynydd Llandegai.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side fought hard in difficult conditions on their travels, but they were unable to salvage anything from the game despite throwing everything at their opponents in the closing stages.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side remain second from bottom in the standings and without a league win so far this term, but they will be looking to extend their sensational JD Welsh Cup exploits this Saturday when Sports’ host FC Queens Park at their Gronant base.

A tense opening to the contest was devoid of any significant goalmouth action as both sides found conditions difficult thanks to the torrential rain that had battered the region prior to the clash.

The decisive moment of the clash arrived after the break on 63 minutes when Thomas Collins found some rare space in the Sports’ rear-guard, and the talented individual held his nerve to turn in the chance and give the hosts a slender lead.

The visitors picked themselves up almost instantly and gave Mynydd plenty to think about for the remainder of the encounter, but they were unable to take any of the chances that came their way to suffer another third-tier loss.

Attention now turns to their winnable first round clash against a Park side that have risen to the Huws Gray Alliance in previous seasons, with the tie expected to be another feisty affair in pursuit of a place in the hat.
