A BLISTERING start saw Nantlle Vale reach the JD Welsh Cup second round with a 2-0 home win over Rhydymwyn.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side came out of the blocks flying and managed to hold on to their early advantage for the remainder of the clash, and they opened the scoring after just two minutes when a supreme period of pressure resulted in Aaron Hughes hitting the target.

This shifted momentum firmly in the home side’s favour and they took full advantage yet again thanks to a superb piece of skill from Cynan Davies, who mesmerised the visiting defence before slotting into the corner.

Although Vale were unable to add to their tally for the remainder of the encounter, they managed to see out the tie with minimal fuss to book their place in the hat.

There was no such luck for Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs, who exited the competition with a 2-0 home reverse at the hands of Buckley Town.

The Quarrymen had nothing to show from a spirited display against JD Cymru North side, who took the lead on eight minutes when Jake Roberts netted after good work in the build-up from Aron Williams.

A number of key opportunities went begging for the hosts at crucial stages soon after, and they were made to pay on 69 minutes when Williams went from provider to scorer in order to see his side progress.

Llanberis’ hugely anticipated home encounter against Porthmadog and Llanrug United’s clash with Aberffraw both fell victim to the adverse weather conditions.
