ABERGELE moved top of the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division standings thanks to a resounding 8-1 home victory over Rhos United.

The title hopefuls have enjoyed a phenomenal start to the campaign that has seen them in five and draw two of their opening seven contests, and their latest triumph moves them one point ahead of early pacesetters Rhuddlan Town having played a game more than their championship rivals.

The home side made a strong start to proceedings in difficult conditions and they were rewarded on the quarter hour mark when Jack Hoult was presented with a chance, and the prolific forward displayed his trademark composure to find the net.

This was met by a swift response from the visitors, who were given a golden chance to tie things up on 18 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, which Shaun Davies duly despatched.

Their joy proved to be short lived as Gele restored their cushion on 20 minutes when Jack McDougall finished well following a good spell of possession to give them a slender advantage heading into the break.

After the interval saw the hosts raise the tempo even further which United had no answer for, with Kane Williams netting the first goal of the second period on 50 minutes with a powerful attempt.

Former Kinmel Bay and Prestatyn Town striker Hoult was on hand to notch his second of the afternoon on the hour mark after another period of sustained pressure, and McDougall matched this feat shortly following the restart to secure his brace with 63 on the clock.

The home side were now in rampant mood and they increased their unassailable lead late on thanks to a quick-fire brace from Connah Atkinson on 75 and 85 minutes, and Lewis Maroney put the exclamation point on proceedings thanks to a superb strike with a minute remaining.
