PRESTATYN Sports blew a two-goal advantage as they fell to a disappointing 5-2 reverse at Llandyrnog United.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side are still seeking their first win of the campaign and moved to the basement following from a promising position against their relegation rivals.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side face another stern test of their credentials this Saturday during their home clash against in-form Llanrwst United.

The away side made an impressive start to the early six-pointer and were rewarded on 17 minutes when a neat passage of play presented a chance to Kris Owen, who made no mistake with the finish.

After the break saw Sports’ extend their advantage on 49 minutes when Robbie Dunn’s effort found the net, but it was one-way traffic thereafter thanks to a significant fightback from Jimmy McInally’s men in the final quarter of the clash.

Their comeback began on 66 minutes thanks to a superb strike from Josh Jones to reduce the arrears, and they got back on level terms with 72 gone as Ross Gilbert pounced on some hesitant defending to hit the target.

This swung momentum firmly in United’s favour and they took full advantage once again on 76 minutes when veteran midfielder Russell Moorcroft’s powerful drive put them ahead for the first time, and the hosts all-but sealed the points late on as Jones despatched his second of the afternoon with three remaining.

There was still time for the home side to rub further salt into Sports’ wounds, with Gilbert capping off an eye-catching display with his brace on 89 minutes to round off the scoring.

Sports now have just one point to show from their nine league games so far this term, but will plenty of games still to come at their Gronant base there is still all to play for.
