BODEDERN Athletic advanced to the FAW Trophy third round with a 4-2 home triumph over Llanberis.

Ricky Williams’ side have hit their stride in recent weeks after an indifferent start to the campaign, and they managed to book their place in the hat despite not being at their best against fellow Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One opposition.

The home side got off to a fine start and went ahead on four minutes when Aidan Clark despatched a chance on four minutes, but they were pegged back immediately thanks to an Ifan Mansoor strike with six on the clock.

Clark was the difference-maker for Athletic once again on 31 minutes when he duly converted another attempt after a fine team move, only for Owain Jones to restore parity to the score line just two minutes later.

The visitors’ joy proved to be fleeting as prolific front man Dean Redmond produced a clinical finish on 36 minutes to put Athletic back in the ascendancy, and Clark capped off an exceptional individual display with his hat-trick after the break to secure victory.

Gaerwen also reached the third-round stage with a sensational 4-2 extra-time win at home to Brickfield Rangers.

A brace from Iwan Williams did the majority of the damage, with Chris Bennett and Sion Childs also on target for the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two outfit.
