LLANDUDNO cruised into the JD Welsh Cup third round with an emphatic 4-1 home victory over Llanfair United.

Matthew Jones’ side recovered well from going a goal down early on to book their place in the hat with minimal fuss, which was their second straight victory in all competitions for the inconsistent group.

Tudno will be aiming for further success when they next take the field in JD Cymru North action this Saturday at home to Penrhyncoch, who also reached the third-round stage with a sensational victory at Llanelli Town.

Home skipper Danny Hughes went close to opening the scoring on seven minutes when he shot was diverted wide, and Tudno’s 16-year-old stopper Tom Williams had to be at his best to deny United a certain goal at the other end with 12 on the clock.

The visitors were presented with a golden opportunity for the opener on 34 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, and Paul Griffiths held his nerve to narrowly convert the spot kick past Williams.

Aron Hughes-Jones’ powerful attempt that sailed narrowly over on 37 minutes to leave the hosts with a slender deficit at the break, but they controlled the entire second period to emerge as comfortable from the tie with a spot in the next round.

They restored parity to the score-line on 55 minutes when a well-worked move was finished off by Aron Jones, and the same player was on hand to tuck away another chance to give Tudno the lead for the firs time on the hour mark.

This visibly spurred on the home side further and they doubled their advantage on 71 minutes when Hughes reacted first to turn in a rebound, and they concluded the scoring in fortunate fashion late on when Dan Stephens netted in stoppage time.
