ABERGELE bowed out of the Normac Precision Engineering JT (Charlie) Jones Presidents Cup with a 4-2 reverse at Llanfairfechn Town.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division title hopefuls exited the competition at the second-round stage against a side expected to be challenging them for honours at the end of the campaign, and they fell behind on 24 minutes when Curtis Murray finished well for the hosts.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who managed to go into the half-time interval all-square thanks to a superb strike from Liam Roberts with 43 on the clock.

After the break saw the home side impose their authority on proceedings from the off, with Ellis Jones restoring their slender cushion with a well-taken effort on 49 minutes.

Gele worked hard to try and get themselves back into the tie but found life difficult against the resolute Town rear-guard, and they fell further behind on 70 minutes when a neat passage of play was finished off in style by Ryan Lewis.

Their elimination from the competition was confirmed on 85 minutes when a prolonged period of possession on 85 minutes presented a chance to Robin Roberts, who made no mistake with the finish to round off the scoring from the hosts’ perspective.

Credit to the visitors, they kept plugging away right until the end and managed to grab another consolation through Connor Atkinson with two remaining, but it failed to have an impact on the overall outcome of what proved to be a thoroughly entertaining cup encounter.
