LLANELWY Athletic booked their place in the Normac Precision Engineering JT (Charlie) Jones Presidents Cup third round with a stunning 12-1 home success over Machno United.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division side were given a brief scare before eventually emerging victorious in convincing fashion, falling behind on 14 minutes when Harry Kirkham steered in a chance to give United a shock early advantage.

This joy proved to be short-lived thanks to a leveller courtesy of Kevin Rickard on 21 minutes, and prolific forward Steve Kirk made the most of some space to put Athletic ahead with 26 on the clock.

Kirk was on hand to benefit from more outstanding approach play on 38 minutes for his second of the tie, and he wrapped off an impressive individual first half showing with his hat-trick with a minute remaining in the period.

The floodgates opened further following the interval with Rob Brown netting a quick-fire brace within the first five minutes of the restart, and Danny Gizzi also got in on the act midway through the half with a fine strike with 63 gone.

Athletic ran riot against their tiring opponents in the final quarter of the clash, with Brown hitting two more strikes on 74 and 76 minutes to take his tally for the afternoon to four.

This feat was topped by Kirk thanks to a pair of efforts on 80 and 85 minutes to finish the tie with five, and Gizzi notched his brace with 89 on the clock to complete the rout.
