ABERGELE were unable to move back to the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division summit after they were held 3-3 at Cerrigydrudion.

The championship hopefuls extended their unbeaten start to ten but another draw, their fifth of the campaign, leaves them below Rhuddlan Town on goal difference having played two games more than their title rivals.

Things did not begin well for the visitors, who fell behind on ten minutes when a neat passage of play presented a chance to Rich Lloyd, who made no mistake with the finish to break the deadlock.

This was met by a swift response from Gele, who restored parity to the score-line through a successful Jack Lloyd attempt with 19 on the clock, but they went into the break a goal down as Tirion Griffiths’ superb effort on 23 minutes restored the home side’s slender advantage.

After the break saw the away side immediately impose themselves on proceedings and equalised for a second time on 47 minutes when Sam Ashton finished well following a period of sustained possession.

Credit to the hosts, who once again showed tremendous character to get themselves ahead on 55 minutes thanks to Griffiths, who was a constant thorn in Gele’s side and displayed his trademark composure to despatch his second of the afternoon.

There was still time for further drama heading into the closing stages, and the visitors managed to salvage something from an entertaining clash when prolific forward Jack Hoult slotted home a third leveller with five remaining to ensure both sides had something to show for their efforts.
