LLANFAIRFECHAN Town Reserves moved up to third in Vale of Conwy League Division One thanks to a 2-0 win at Penrhyn Bay Dragons.

Town took advantage of the inactivity of others around them to close the gap on the North Football Association to eight points, although they have played four games more than the title favourites.

The visitors began the game on the front foot and got their noses in front on 14 minutes when Owen Bellfield produced a moment of magic with a superb strike that gave the home custodian no chance.

Credit to the Dragons, who responded well to the setback for the remainder of the period but were crucially unable to take any of the opportunities that came their way and went into the break with a slender disadvantage.

After the interval saw both sides enjoy good spells of possession without creating any consistent chances in the final third, but the telling moment of the half arrived on 85 minutes when a quick break from the away side sent Cameron Hales through on goal, and the player held his nerve to steer into the net and round off the scoring.

The result leaves the Dragons’ second from bottom in the standings and narrowly ahead of Rhyl All Stars, who had their game against Machno United postponed due to no referee being available.
