ABERGELE closed the gap on Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division leaders Rhuddlan Town with a dramatic 8-4 home win over Llanelwy Athletic.

The second-placed side moved level on points with the current pacesetters having played two games more, and they extended their unbeaten league record to 11 having won six and drawn five during the campaign.

The hosts got off to the best possible start when Jack Hoult put them ahead on ten minutes, only for Dan Price to level things up immediately following the restart with 12 on the clock.

Athletic took a shock lead on 20 minuets when Frank Hennigan finished well, but a quick-fire brace from J Williams and Connah Atkinson gave Gele the initiative once again on 23 and 25.

This joy proved to be short lived as Price despatched his second of the afternoon to equalise on the half hour mark, but the home side struck once again when Liam Roberts produced a superb strike with 35 gone.

Hoult was the difference-maker for Gele after the break with two goals on 60 and 75 minutes to seal his treble, and although Paul Fazakerley gave the visitors a glimmer of hope on 78 it was not enough as a Dominic Holland brace late on gave the hosts a comfortable lead that they never relinquished.

Llanfairfechan Town also boosted their chances of promotion with an emphatic 6-0 home rout over Rhos United.

Iwan Jones was the star of the show for the home side, netting a tremendous hat trick to play a leading role in his side’s success, with Elliot Croston, Tom Croston and Sean Devereux also on target for Town, who are now two points behind Rhuddlan with a game in hand.

The only other league game of the weekend saw Bro Cernyw and Cerrigydrudion play out a goalless draw.
