Llangefni Town boss Roberts hails young debutants after impressive win at Buckley Town

The newly promoted side picked up another hugely important three points in their fight for JD Cymru North survival, and the result was made even more impressive by the fact five players made their second-tier debuts with ten senior squad members missing for the clash.

Cefni now sit in 12th position and four points off the relegation places ahead of another pivotal encounter at home to Porthmadog on January 10.

Roberts, said: “I kept them on the pitch after the game and told the lads they thoroughly deserved the win.

“To come to Buckley on New Year’s Day is not easy, especially with so many missing, but the young lads who came in from the reserves did tremendously well.

“They all put their bodies on the line, and it is another important three points. It’s not easy to get the reserve lads ready at short notice but sometimes you do get a better reaction from them as they have a point to prove.

“I threw them in at the deep end where it is sink or swim and thankfully they were all really good.

“Porthmadog at home is going to be another tough and important match as they are also struggling and down there, so hopefully there will be more of the same and we will be ready to go.”

The away side opened the scoring on 27 minutes when a fine Jake Jones header nestled into the net, and he went from scorer to provider after the break to tee up Steffan Jones and double their advantage.

They wrapped up proceedings with five remaining and once again it was Jake Jones who was the instigator, sending Will Hughes through on goal before a neat finish rounded off the scoring.

Cefni also received a boost to the squad with the signings of Jordie Murphy and Marvin Pritchard from Holyhead Town and Llanrug United.

Pritchard played a pivotal role in Town’s promotion winning campaign last term before departing this summer, and Murphy became a free agent following the Harbourmen’s withdrawal from the Welsh Alliance.
