A PRESTATYN Cricket Club overseas legend has agreed to make a sensational return and boost their expected promotion push.

The Liverpool and District Competition Division Three side announced the signing of overseas player Sampath Perera, who enjoyed a hugely successful three-year stint at Beach Close before leaving in 2016.

The seam bowler took more than 50 wickets in each of his three seasons with the club, and also provided some much-needed runs from the middle order to further enhance his overall influence.

Perera took a total of 145 league and cup wickets at an average of just 13.14 and accounted for 33 per cent of the team’s scalps.

This included astonishing figures of 9-10 from just six overs in their victory over Alder in 2014, which is one of the finest ever bowling performances in the region.

He averaged 28.76 from 47 innings at the crease during his first spell, which saw Perera secure six half-centuries and a best knock of 78 at Ainsdale.

The ambitious club also confirmed the signing of talented youngster Rohit Kaimal to their squad for the summer.

A talented batsman will go into Prestatyn’s top order and can also bowl leg spin when required. He is currently a part of the Wales U19 squad and also represents Cheshire.

Another exciting arrival at Beach Close is Max Jones, who makes a return to the set-up following a spell at nearby rivals Colwyn Bay.

The experienced figure boasts a batting average of 28.86 from 183 innings, racking up 4,242 runs and a career-best knock of 184 not out.

He has four centuries and 24 half centuries to his name, with Jones also possessing considerable fielding skills.

Prestatyn are celebrating their 125th anniversary this summer and look primed for a title challenge after suffering relegation last term.
