RHYL full-back Steve Thomas has called on the Football Association of Wales to do whatever they can to ensure the season comes to a successful conclusion.

The talented player holds a strong opinion that the season should resume following the domestic suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Any possible cancellation would have huge ramifications on the off the pitch for clubs across the region, with promotion, relegation and financial implications just some of the problems that will result in expunging fixtures from the 2019/20 campaign.

Thomas, who enjoyed a decade littered with achievements at Holywell Town before moving to Llandudno and the Lilywhites, said: “It would be a disgrace if any league was voided for me.

“I think the FAW needs to come up with various solutions and let the teams vote. You can’t play this many games and it count for nothing.

“It’s such a hard decision and you’ll never please everyone. Whichever fixtures are left, I’d be tempted to double up on the result from the first game.

“We never play enough midweek games from August until November, so if it’s safe there’s room for manoeuvre next season there and then extend it.”

Thomas made a bright start for the Lilies’ before a frustrating time with injuries during the JD Cymru North campaign, and there is a real doubt whether Rhyl FC will be competing in their current entity next season due to their financial predicament.

The club’s board of directors held a video conference meeting on Saturday evening to discuss three investment offers from interested parties, with another scheduled for Wednesday to move the long-term solution to their grave situation forward.
