LLANDUDNO manager Matthew Jones stated the Football Association of Wales’ planning for resuming the season in June is “premature”.

The governing body plans to get the JD Cymru Premier, North and South leagues back underway on June 2 following the coronavirus fixture suspension, providing it is safe to do so and social distancing measures have been relaxed by the government.

Jones, who took over at the helm of the former Europa League qualifiers last summer, is uneasy about returning to playing matters when the Covid-19 situations is growing increasingly more concerning with every passing day.

He said: “In terms of when I think we will be in a position to start up again, I think it is so difficult to tell.

“We really don’t know when we are going to be in a position to safely play football again, and the safety part is the key.

“Trying to get the games played in June I is premature because we just don’t know how long this outbreak is going to last, so trying to plan for a restart is very difficult.

“I think we just have to take it week by week and take the advice and guidance of those in governance.”

The Tudno boss also called on supporters to “look after each other” during this difficult time, which has left footballing matters taking a big seat.

“These are unprecedented and difficult times for us all, and football, at this time really is an irrelevance,” added Jones.

“Our physical and mental health the priority at the moment, and I urge us all to look out for ourselves and one another.

“This does not mean however that we don’t miss our weekly fix of the beautiful game.”
