COLWYN Bay manager Craig Hogg is predicting a “mini pre-season” before the domestic football season can get back underway.

The Seagulls’ boss reacted to the Football Association of Wales’ plans to resume the JD Cymru Premier, North and South leagues on June 2 in order to bring matters to a successful conclusion.

This will only be done if social distancing measures are relaxed by the government and games are able to be played safely.

Hogg, said: “We have a plan to work with and hopefully it will be safe for everyone to restart on the date we’ve been given.

“Safety is the priority, not just with the health emergency we currently have, but also from a player point of view, as we won’t be able to turn up and play on the restart date envisaged, for example.

“With the social distancing measures, we will not only have to get training sessions sanctioned by the FAW, but also a friendly or two prior to any restart.

“If we can do that then I think it would be far safer for all players to being playing again.”

“I’d imagine some sort of mini pre-season and we are working on training session content now as a staff.”

Hogg has already spoken to various clubs regarding the possibility of friendly fixtures prior to the season’s predicted resumption but stressed the need for players’ fitness to be up to scratch to avoid injury complications before competitive action is brought back.

“I’ve also spoken with a couple of managers to pencil in a friendly, but again this is subject to training and games being sanctioned by our governing body and ultimately a change in the distancing measures we currently have,” added Hogg.

“The players have been training individually and maintained a certain level of fitness, but before we even look at playing competitive games, we will have to meet certain fitness targets together as a group.”
