TWO members of RGC’s senior squad have come in for significant praise for their efforts throughout the Indigo Group Premiership season.

Efan Jones and Afon Bagshaw were named into two expert Teams of the Season in a recent feature published on the Welsh Rugby Union website during the coronavirus closure.

The governing body took the decision to cancel all domestic rugby to combat the threat of Covid-19, meaning there would be no promotion, relegation or champions crowned in 2019/20.

Scrum-half Jones came through the RGC Academy system at Rydal Penrhos in Colwyn Bay and Bangor University, earning a Wales U18 youth international cap as a schoolboy.

The talented back suffered a serious eye socket injury that required surgery towards the end of the season, which was a blow to the Gogs’ given Jones’ increasing influence on the set-up.

He was named as the starting nine in Rob Cole’s XV of the season following a series of exceptional displays that further enhanced his reputation as one of the brightest young domestic prospects anywhere in the country.

Bagshaw has been a leading figure at RGC for a considerable period of time after coming through the Academy ranks at Coleg Llandrillo.

He has achieved a significant amount throughout his career, earning international recognition at Wales youth level in addition to becoming vice-captain of the national 7s side.

The player has been at the top of his game during another memorable campaign from Bagshaw’s perspective, and he was named a starting full-back in Phil Steele’s XV of the season.

One notable omission from the lists was RGC fly-half Billy McBryde, who did not make any of the four XV’s despite finishing as the Premiership’s top scorer by a comfortable margin.
