COLWYN Bay wide player Alex Downes has set his sights on a milestone when the domestic football season resumes.

The talented wing-back is just two games away from reaching 50 appearances for the Seagulls’ and is a supporter of playing games behind closed doors in order to bring the campaign to a successful conclusion once social distancing measures relating to Covid-19 are relaxed by the government.

If the season is eventually cancelled, Downes would see more than half his 48 appearances and two of his four goals expunged.

The 20-year-old, said: "I am in favour of finishing the season if possible because of all the hard work that has been put into it and will all have been for nothing, and I would happily play games behind closed doors if that could guarantee getting it completed.

"But if the season cannot be concluded professionally and properly, and the remaining games can't be played, then I think the season should be null and void."

Downes is currently still working during the pandemic in his role with Asda and is fitting in some fitness work on rare days off during a busy time for the supermarket industry.

He has secured three Man of the Match Award so far this term against Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Bangor City and champions elect Prestatyn Town.

"On my days off I do a home gym session and go for a run, but it is frustrating and I want to get back onto the pitch," he added.

Downes, who is now based in Rhyl, was one of the few remaining Seagulls’ squad members that made the transition from the English system back to the Welsh pyramid and initially joined the club on loan from Chester.
