COLWYN Bay skipper Tom McCready highlighted the need to put safety before football when coming to a decision on resuming the domestic season.

The standout midfielder has been at the top of his game this term, further highlighting his reputation as one of the most gifted players anywhere in the Welsh domestic system.

He has been a revelation since arriving at the Seagulls’ from AFC Fylde making 81 appearances and scoring 23 goals. McCready is keen for the season to continue following the coronavirus fixture suspension, but The Bay captain, said: “Obviously we have this sort of time off for the summer breaks normally, but not knowing when we are going to return is the weird bit.

“To be honest football is the least of people's worries at the moment and I just hope everybody connected with the Bay and their families stay healthy and look after each other until we can get back to normal.

“I am honestly not bothered what the powers that be decide. If it can start again safely, then great. If it can't, then that is fine as well - the most important thing is that everyone remains safe and any decisions should be made with that at the forefront.

"If the season can't be finished then I would opt for it to be null and void rather than have places decided on a points per game system.

“Everyone can have a good run of form at different times and there are always a couple of surprises at the end of the season which you'd be ruling out."

McCready has secured many memorable highlights during the JD Cymru North season, which included a match-winning goal to put top-flight side Airbus UK Broughton out of the JD Welsh Cup, but the playmaker picked out their home win over Llandudno as his best.

"We had a massive crowd that day and it felt like a real show of how good this club can be again in the future, with the fans, board, stadium and staff that we've got," he added.
