COLWYN Bay have recalled striker Joe Chaplin from his loan spell at JD Cymru North rivals Gresford Athletic.

The former Huws Gray Alliance title-winner with Airbus Broughton moved to Steve Halliwell’ side during the January transfer window in a bid to get more game time under his belt following an injury hit campaign.

Chaplin made the most of his time on the field with some outstanding displays that played a huge part in Athletic moving away from danger in the second tier.

He will now return to the Bay and fight for a regular starting position whenever the campaign gets back underway following the coronavirus fixture suspension.

Manager Craig Hogg, said: “The loan has worked really well for all parties and we look forward to having Joe back in the Bay shirt again."

Chaplin made 20 appearances for the Seagulls’ during the initial stages of the season, netting four times. This included late winners against Bangor City and Llandudno.

A hamstring strain impacted his ability to make a more telling impression on the set-up, but he thrived during his loan spell at Gresford, netting five goals in seven games and found himself on the losing side just once.

This also saw Chaplin shortlisted for the JD Cymru North’s Player of the Month for February, which was eventually won by Porthmadog’s Shaun Cavanagh.
