COLWYN Bay defender Mike Williams called for the current season to be declared “null and void” due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The experienced player has enjoyed a glittering career that saw him make more than 100 appearances for Wrexham before making a return to the Welsh system with Bangor City, Llandudno and the Seagulls.

The Football Association of Wales have penned in a provisional start date of June 2 for tiers 1-4 providing social distancing measures are relaxed by that point, but Williams is keen to avoid any disruption relating to next season.

He said: "I think we as a nation are all missing football, but I personally think the current season in Wales should be ended and declared null and void.

"While I'm aware that a lot of money and effort has been invested in the campaign so far, I think, in the long run, the less disruption that next season has the better.

"However, I do think this would be unfair on Prestatyn as I believe they have been worthy of being crowned champions.

"At the moment we are all speculating because no-one knows how long this lockdown is going to last.

"Taking everything into consideration football is not important and people's health and wellbeing should be prioritised."

Williams has made 17 appearances for Craig Hogg’s men during their first season back in the Welsh pyramid. His favourite highlight was the Seagulls’ sensational JD Welsh Cup win over top-flight side Airbus UK Broughton.

"Friday night under the lights and to a man all the lads put in a shift," he added.

"You could see the togetherness in the squad and the celebrations when Macca (Tom McCready) scored the winner were great to see.”
