HOMETOWN hero Mel McGinness has made a return to Holyhead Hotspur for their return to JD Cymru North.

The Holy Islanders’ were granted promotion following the Football Association of Wales’ ruling, and they clinched the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title on a points per game basis from Denbigh Town.

McGinness departed the club last summer after their relegation in favour of a move to Porthmadog, but he found chances limited at Y Traeth before eventually making a January move to Llangefni Town.

He played a significant role for Chris Roberts’ side during the second half of the campaign, where they eventually avoided the drop when the remaining fixtures were curtailed at the expense of Port.

Spurs’ manager Darren Garmey was given more welcome news as the large majority of his current squad agreed to remain with the club after the step up in class was confirmed.

Goalkeeper Carl Jones, Dan McGinness, Luke Roberts, Alex Jones, Rees Brown, Kris Dunne, Kenleigh Owen, Dean Garmey, Corey Jones, Deian Parry and Sam Ashworth all agreed to put pen to paper on new deals when the opportunity arises ahead of the new season.

Experienced striking duo Chris Jones and Asa Thomas will also be part of the squad, with Robert Jones and Harry Lewis also committing their immediate futures.

There is just “a couple” of players from last season’s squad that haven’t yet decided their futures, but the club hopes to have more positive news in the coming days.
