COLWYN Bay’s latest fixture saw them fall to a seven-wicket home reverse at the hands of St Asaph.

This was the second time in three weeks that the Bay have been beaten by the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division side, who extended their 100 per cent record from friendly contests so far.

Jason Foulkes got the visitors off to a flyer with the new ball, disposing of Ryan Westwell (0), Will Sissons (5) and Bay skipper George Johnson (0) in quick succession on his way to final figures of 3-20 from a nine-over spell.

The away side also got a leading contribution from Liam Moores, who took out the dangerous duo of Adam Campion and Matt Russell for 17 and a duck respectively, with Charlie Williams also getting in on the act with the scalps of Sam Bright (14) and Zack Gidlow (4).

Bay’s resistance came from wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Russell, who was a stubborn presence at the crease on his way to 45 from 97 deliveries, but he was caught off a Danny Ryan delivery narrowly short of his half-century.

Only Paul Jenkins managed to make it into double-figures thereafter thanks to a 15 knock, leaving the hosts all out on 153 from 44.5 overs in the middle.

The visitors managed to reach their required target with minimal fuss, and City’s captain Will Ryan was at the top of his game once again to lead his side to success.

Ryan demonstrated his outstanding shot selection on his way to 53, and youngster David Lloyd also aided his team’s cause with an eye-catching 31.

Foulkes continued his solid contribution on both sides with 29, and Matty Ryan’s 16 also kept the scoreboard ticking over.

It took the Saints’ just 37.3 overs to secure victory at Penrhyn Avenue, leaving Bay out of luck once again at the beginning of a summer that has been significantly disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
