FORMER Colwyn Bay defender Darren Thornton has found a new home after agreeing to a deal with Flint Town United.

The experienced figure arrived at the Four Crosses Arena from Glossop North End in December 2018 and made a total of 45 appearances for the club.

He scored twice for the Seagulls during his first season in a 4-1 win over Market Drayton and the player also netted in a defeat to Radcliffe Borough.

Thornton followed this up with a solid contribution last season as Craig Hogg’s side firmly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with on domestic soil in the JD Cymru North after ended a three-decade stay in the English system.

The no-nonsense centre half was released by the club following the Football Association of Wales’ decision to curtail the previous campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Thornton will now look to make his presence felt with the Silkmen in the top-flight next season.

In addition to his time with the Bay and Glossop, Thornton has also represented Curzon Ashton, Hyde United, Bradford Park Avenue and Nantwich Town throughout his career.

He is the latest high-profile signing to join Niall McGuinness’ men, with former Prestatyn Town midfielder Rob Hughes and Caernarfon Town skipper Nathan Craig among those who have joined the ranks during a frenzied period of transfer movement at the Essity Stadium.
