COLWYN Bay’s third team turned on the style to secure an impressive nine-wicket victory at Dolgellau.

Both sides have been relatively starved of action this summer due to restrictions put in place regarding the coronavirus pandemic, but they did at least have some glorious weather on their final weekend before the long winter break.

The visitors got their time in the field off to a flyer when Alfie Jones dismissed opener Richard Rees for a duck, and he was followed swiftly back to the pavilion by Alex Yorke after he was clean bowled by James Smith for two.

A strong partnership from Morgan Yorke (38) and Sam Williams (25) put some valuable runs on the board, but both were ousted from the crease by Shay Williams and Elliott Roberts when it looked as if both were set to post formidable scores.

Youngster Aaron Sherrington got himself a wicket in the form of middle-order batsman Niki Williams (8), but an unbeaten 38 from wicketkeeper Dave Jenkins late on meant the home side managed to set a modest target of 178-7 from their allotted 40 overs in the middle.

Roberts was the pick of the Bay bowling attack, finishing with two wickets for the loss of just ten runs.

It did not take long for the away side to impose themselves on proceedings during their run chase, which was thanks in no small part to an outstanding opening partnership from Roberts and Harry Spillane.

Both players were in tremendous form throughout before deciding to give other batsmen a go after retiring not out on 50 apiece.

Jones was unable to make a lasting contribution and made just two before he was caught off a Dan Williams delivery, which proved to be the one and only scalp Dolgellau claimed from the one-sided contest.

The away side saw out the remainder of the innings with minimal fuss thanks to a 38 not out from Nick Bould and an unbeaten 19 from Tom O’Melia.
