KINMEL Bay continued their series of friendly fixtures with a 2-1 home success over Llanfairfechan Town.

The NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division side were made to work hard by their opponents before emerging victorious from the contest, which is another positive step for Frank Standing’s men as they look to stay sharp ahead of the season eventually getting the green light to begin at some stage.

A cagey first half-hour brought little in the way of action in the final third, with goalkeepers Kyle Jones and Luke Wilmot both making one outstanding save apiece to keep the scores level.

The deadlock was finally broken on 35 minutes and went the ay of the visitors, who found the net courtesy of a fine finish from Shaun Devereux.

This provoked a strong response from the Bay, who got themselves back on level terms almost instantly thanks to a sensational free-kick from prolific striker Matty Griffiths.

The game’s deciding moment came in favour of the home side, with Cory Owen’s superb strike deciding matters after some eye-catching work in the build-up from Nyal Hughes and Anthony Jones.

Despite Town throwing everything at their opponents in the closing stages, the Bay remained resolute in the face of some concerted pressure to pick up the victory.

This was the last time Hughes will turn out for the club, with the player moving away from the region.
