CONWY Borough boss Matthew Jones is airing on the side of caution despite the prospect of JD Cymru North action returning at last next month.
The Tangerines’ have been involved in just one competitive game over the last year due to COVID-19 restrictions - a 1-0 home loss to Ruthin Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup – with Jones working hard on building a squad capable of building some positive momentum once again after arriving at Y Morfa during the summer.
Jones stated that the club have been working hard to prepare for the eventuality of a season start since the end of last year, with friendlies and training already sorted out once it is safe to do so.
He said: “It’s fantastic news that we have been issued with this update and that we seem to have some solid dates to be working towards.
“We are remaining cautious, we are still relying on the alert level changing before getting the green light, so our fingers are crossed that this happens.
“In terms of our plans, we have booked some friendlies in for the 28-day prep time we will have, but other than that, all our preparations are already in place, the management team and club have been working since December to have everything ready for when we return.”
Borough are looking to make further strides this time around after securing a top-six finish under Chris Morrell when the Football Association of Wales curtailed the 2019/20 season upon advice from the Welsh Government.
Jones added that his squad is raring to go after an unprecedented period of disruption, with the group working on their own individual fitness plans to ensure they’re ready to hit the ground running in a shortened 15-game season.
“In terms of the players, they are eager and keen, they are working through their own fitness plans and eager to get the season going again,” he added.
“I think we are just really looking forward to getting back to playing.”
