PHIL PARKINSON revealed Josh Windass has suffered a slight setback in his recovery from injury.
The Reds boss had hoped Windass - top scorer and player of the season in 2025-26 when Wrexham just missed out on a Championship play-off spot - would be closing in on a return, but the attacking midfielder has failed to recover as quickly as expected after his ankle problem flared up.
Last in action when Wrexham drew 1-1 away to Derby County on October 10, Windass has joined Nathan Broadhead on the sidelines.
The Wales international winger started the opening three league matches of the season but after returning to training following a previous injury, strained his thigh in training and hasn't featured since the end of August.
Parkinson provided an update on the duo.
"We hoped for Josh but he's not made the progress that we thought he would," said the Reds' boss ahead of tonight's game against title-chasing Middlesbrough at The Racecourse.
"There's still swelling in the ankle, unfortunately, so as much as Josh has been running on the anti-gravity treadmill, we've got to try and take the pressure away from the ankle.

"It's flared up and he's not ready, basically, so we can't do anything more than what we're doing to get both those players fit.
"Broadie will join in some part of the training on Thursday, but he's been out for quite a while.
"Hopefully Josh will be back after the international break and Broadie is getting closer."
