GLAN Conwy surged into second position in Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two with a hard-fought 1-0 home triumph over promotion rivals Kinmel Bay.

There was nothing to choose between the two side during the contest, which was decided on 80 minutes when prolific forward Jordan Phillips produced a fine strike for the home side to secure the points.

The result sees Glan leapfrog the Bay in the standings, and they are remain 12 points behind long-time pacesetters Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs with two games in hand.

Mochdre Sports were unable to come away from their tricky trip to Pwllheli with any points after suffering a heavy 6-1 loss.

A quick-fire brace from the prolific Mark Jones on 12 and 14 minutes put the home side in the ascendancy, before Tom Mahoney added a third following another spell of pressure with 20 gone.

Jones rounded off a sensational start with his hat-trick on 27 minutes to all-but condemn the visitors to defeat, and there was still time for further hosts’ success when Martin Smith slotted in a chance after 36.

The away side did manage a consolation just before the break through Kai Davies on 44 minutes, but Pwll’ rounded off the scoring in the second period thanks to a well-taken effort from Jake Jones.

Sports are now second from bottom and one point behind Gaerwen having played two games more.
