Former world champion Peter Ebdon was the highest-profile casualty during the second round of the Coral Shoot Out at the Watford Colosseum.
The 47-year-old was beaten 37-16 by world number 126 Sean O’Sullivan in the single-frame sprint format.
Another past champion at the crucible, Scotland’s Graeme Dott, beat James Cahill, while Wales’ Matthew Stevens survived a scare to edge out David Lilley 27-26.
Barry Hawkins, Nigel Bond and Barry Hawkins were among the other players to secure a place in the last 16.
