SCHOOL children have been temporarily prohibited from entering Llandudno’s Asda supermarket unless accompanied by an adult.

This decision, labelled a “last resort”, follows a number of incidents involving youths at the store.

Asda, whose Llandudno superstore is based on Conway Road, said it has been in contact with North Wales Police and various schools in the area on the matter.

It stressed that “violence or abuse” towards staff will not be tolerated.

An Asda spokesperson said: "Whilst now allowing people into our stores is always a last resort, we do not tolerate any form of violence or abuse towards our colleagues.

“We have made the decision to temporarily not allow school children into our Llandudno store, unless accompanied by an adult.

“This decision will be kept under review whilst we continue to engage with local police and schools.”

Inspector Catherine Walker, of North Wales Police, said: “Abuse against retail staff is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

"We continue to work closely with Asda Llandudno, local businesses and schools to support them when incidents are reported.”

Last March, Asda banned children younger than 16 not accompanied by an adult from its Llandudno store for similar reasons.

This followed the removal of items from shelves and problems with security staff at the supermarket.
