THIS week's Trader of the Week is a home, wellness and lifestyle store that has opened in Colwyn Bay, which will soon include a meditation studio.

Zen, located at 14 Seaview Road, has opened opposite the BayView Shopping Centre and specialises in homeware and helping people build their dream home.

The business took over the site which was formerly a book store for the best part of 40 years, and is looking to maintain the relaxing nature of a book store when they hope to start meditation session in February from their very own studio on the premises.

Zen is owned by Kavitha, originally from India and who has been based in Colwyn Bay for the past eight years, now calling the town home.

Her passion for home décor and interiors sparked the venture, which took nearly two years of planning and refurbishment.

Kavitha says the public reaction to the new store has been more than what she could have hoped for.

“We have been overwhelmed with the reactions we got from the people. Within a week of opening, we already started getting recommended customers,” said Kavitha.

“When people talk about dreams, they don't leave the part of mentioning a home.

“Everybody has a dream home, a final destination from every journey they make, where they want to get back to from wherever they are, a place where they can be themselves and feel at ease.

“And we here at Zen create opportunities for people to make their dream even more beautiful and artistic through the products and home decor we offer.”

Despite mainly sourcing their products from the UK, a range of natural products are from abroad, with natural face clays from France (clinically tested and approved in the UK), handcrafted wooden home decor pieces and soft furnishings from Indonesia and India, and perfume oils and incense resins from the Middle East and Arabian countries.

The meditation studio will include guided meditation, breath exercises, a sound bath, aromatherapy, and yoga sessions, all to be held in small group classes.

Kavitha added: “Life isn’t easy for anyone, it is chaotic and stressful in some way or other.

“All are busy planning their future, landing jobs, saving money, securing family, taking vacation, etc. But do all things go as planned?

“I struggled with clinical depression and anxiety in the past. And mindfulness meditation under a doctor's supervision made the recovery a faster process.”
